AARP Free Games Online: Which Games Are Free and How to Play
Reviewed October 17, 2026. AARP offers free online games on its website at aarp.org/games, including the AARP Daily Crossword, Sudoku, Mahjongg, Klondike solitaire and word games like Word Wipe. Most of them are free to play without an AARP membership; a smaller set is marked “Members Only.” Staying Sharp, AARP’s brain health program, has a free account level, and full access is an AARP member benefit.
Quick answer: Go to aarp.org/games, pick a game and play in your web browser. Games labeled “Members Only,” such as Stan Newman’s Daily Crossword, Smartle and Codeword, need an AARP sign-in. AARP membership costs as little as $15 for the first year with automatic renewal, then $20 a year.

AARP Daily Crossword
A new crossword each day. AARP labels it an “AARP Rewards game,” so signed-in players can earn Rewards points. (AARP Daily Crossword) Stan Newman’s harder Daily and Sunday crosswords are for members.
AARP solitaire
Klondike is the classic: build four foundation piles from Ace to King by suit, moving cards between seven columns in alternating colors. AARP also has Spider, FreeCell and a Daily Solitaire.
AARP Mahjongg
Mahjongg Solitaire asks you to clear a layout of tiles by matching free pairs, tiles not covered and open on the left or right. AARP has several versions, including Mahjongg Dimensions.
Word Wipe and other word games
In Word Wipe you connect adjacent letters to form words, which clears them from the board. Outspell and Today’s Hurdle are other free word games.
What is AARP Staying Sharp?
AARP calls Staying Sharp “an online program from AARP offering content about brain health, challenges, brain-friendly recipes, articles and activities.” (Staying Sharp FAQ) Anyone can take the Brain Health Screener. A free account adds a cognitive assessment every 30 days, select challenges, quizzes and games, and more than 500 recipes. Full access is an AARP member benefit. (Staying Sharp: Get started)
Keep expectations realistic. AARP’s own FAQ says “Staying Sharp games are intended for entertainment and recreational purposes only,” that assessment results are “not indicative of cognitive health,” and that nothing in the service replaces medical advice. If you’re worried about memory changes, talk to your doctor; Medicare Part B covers a yearly wellness visit that includes a cognitive assessment.
Do you need an AARP membership?
Not for most games. Membership unlocks Members Only games, full Staying Sharp, and discounts. AARP says membership is as little as $15 for the first year with automatic renewal, then $20 a year, with savings on three- and five-year terms. An AARP membership doesn’t give you Medicare coverage. AARP licenses its name to UnitedHealthcare for Medicare plans you buy separately; see AARP Medicare Supplement plans 2027 and UnitedHealthcare and AARP Medicare. Many Medicare Advantage plans also include fitness programs with online brain-health classes; compare them in Silver&Fit vs SilverSneakers.
