Top-Ranked Hospitals in Florida (2026-2027) and Medicare
Reviewed October 16, 2026. Florida’s top-ranked hospitals in the U.S. News & World Report 2026-2027 Best Hospitals rankings, released August 4, 2026, include Mayo Clinic-Florida in Jacksonville, AdventHealth Orlando, UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Cleveland Clinic Weston and Tampa General Hospital. If you’re on Medicare, a ranking is only half the picture: you also need to check that the hospital takes your coverage and how it scores on Medicare’s own Care Compare star ratings.
Quick answer: Look up the hospital’s ranking on U.S. News, then check its CMS star rating at Medicare.gov/care-compare. If you have Original Medicare, any hospital that accepts Medicare will take you. If you have a Medicare Advantage plan, confirm the hospital is in your plan’s 2027 network before Open Enrollment ends on December 7, 2026.

Check Medicare’s hospital star ratings
Medicare publishes its own Care Compare tool. Its Overall Hospital Quality Star Rating summarizes quality on a 1-to-5-star scale using five groups of measures: mortality, safety of care, readmissions, patient experience, and timely and effective care. (CMS: Overall star rating) Starting with 2027 ratings, CMS will lower the rating by one star for hospitals in the lowest quarter on safety of care, if they report at least three safety measures. (CMS 2026 OPPS fact sheet)
- Go to Medicare.gov/care-compare and choose “Hospitals.”
- Enter a city or ZIP code and the hospital’s name.
- Compare star ratings, patient survey results and specific measures such as infection rates.
Do these hospitals accept Medicare?
Large Florida hospitals generally participate in Medicare, so with Original Medicare (plus a Medigap policy, if you have one) you can use any of them for covered care. With a Medicare Advantage plan, it depends on your plan’s network. An HMO usually covers only in-network hospitals except in emergencies, while a PPO covers out-of-network care at a higher cost. Networks can change from 2026 to 2027, so check each plan’s 2027 provider directory, or call the hospital’s insurance office and ask whether it’s in network for your specific plan.

What a hospital stay costs with Medicare in 2026
With Original Medicare, the 2026 Part A deductible is $1,736 for each benefit period, and outpatient hospital care falls under Part B ($283 deductible, then generally 20%). (CMS) CMS hasn’t published the 2027 amounts yet. Medicare Advantage plans set their own hospital copays and have a yearly out-of-pocket limit.
