Cigna Medigap Plan G in 2027: Now HealthSpring, Coverage and Costs
Reviewed November 1, 2026. Cigna Medigap Plan G is now sold under the HealthSpring name. Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC) bought The Cigna Group’s Medicare Advantage, Medicare Supplemental Benefits, Medicare Part D and CareAllies businesses on March 19, 2025, and HealthSpring’s website now lists Medicare Supplement Insurance policies issued by companies such as HealthSpring National Health Insurance Company. Plan G itself works the same way at every insurer: it pays all of your Medicare-covered cost sharing except the Part B deductible ($283 in 2026).
Quick answer: If you’re shopping for “Cigna Plan G” for 2027, look for HealthSpring Medicare Supplement Plan G, and compare its premium with Plan G from other companies, because the benefits are standardized by law. If you already have a Cigna Medigap policy, keep paying your premium; your coverage stays in force, and HealthSpring’s member pages explain any change to your ID card or billing.
What happened to Cigna Medicare Supplement plans?
HCSC announced on March 19, 2025 that it had completed its acquisition of “The Cigna Group Medicare Advantage, Medicare Supplemental Benefits, Medicare Part D and CareAllies businesses.” In July 2025 HCSC launched HealthSpring as its national Medicare brand. HealthSpring’s shop page now lists “Medicare Supplement Insurance Policies,” with disclaimers naming American Retirement Life Insurance Company, HealthSpring Insurance Company, HealthSpring National Health Insurance Company, Loyal American Life Insurance Company and Medco Containment Life Insurance Company as insurers.
Cigna Healthcare still runs its employer and individual (non-Medicare) health plans. For the Medicare Advantage side of the move, see Cigna Medicare Advantage plans, now HealthSpring.
What does Cigna (HealthSpring) Plan G cover?
Medicare.gov’s Medigap comparison chart shows that Plan G covers:
| Benefit | Plan G pays |
|---|---|
| Part A coinsurance and hospital costs, up to an additional 365 days after Medicare benefits are used | 100% |
| Part A deductible ($1,736 per benefit period in 2026) | 100% |
| Skilled nursing facility coinsurance ($217 a day for days 21 to 100 in 2026) | 100% |
| Part A hospice care coinsurance or copayment | 100% |
| Part B coinsurance or copayment | 100% |
| Part B excess charges | 100% |
| First 3 pints of blood | 100% |
| Foreign travel emergency (up to plan limits) | 80% |
| Part B deductible ($283 in 2026) | Not covered |
Without Plan G, in 2026 you would pay $434 a day for hospital days 61 to 90 and $868 a day for each lifetime reserve day. Plan G pays that coinsurance, and then up to 365 more hospital days.
High-deductible Plan G
Some states offer a high-deductible version of Plan G. Medicare.gov says you “must pay up to $2,950 in 2026 for Medicare-covered costs” before the policy pays. The premium is usually lower, but you take on more cost before coverage starts.
Who can buy Medigap Plan G?
You need Medicare Part A and Part B. Your best time to buy is your 6-month Medigap Open Enrollment Period, which starts the month you’re 65 or older and enrolled in Part B. During that window, an insurer can’t refuse to sell you a policy or charge more because of your health. After it ends, most states let insurers use medical underwriting. Each policy covers one person, so spouses buy separate policies.
HealthSpring’s Medicare Supplement pages say that content isn’t intended for residents of Alaska, Maryland, Minnesota, North Dakota, Oregon or Virginia, so availability depends on your state. Massachusetts, Minnesota and Wisconsin also standardize Medigap plans differently.
How much does Cigna or HealthSpring Plan G cost?
Premiums depend on your age, ZIP code, sex, tobacco use and the insurer’s pricing method. Because every Plan G has the same benefits, the premium and the insurer’s history of rate increases are what you’re comparing. Get quotes from several companies, and see our guide to Medigap plan costs per month.
Plan G vs Plan N and Plan F
- Plan N costs less but has copays of up to $20 for some office visits and up to $50 for ER visits that don’t lead to admission, and doesn’t cover Part B excess charges. Compare them in Plan G vs Plan N.
- Plan F also covers the Part B deductible, but it isn’t available to people who became eligible for Medicare on or after January 1, 2020.
