Aetna OTC Benefits: How to Use the Aetna Medicare Extra Benefits Card
Reviewed October 5, 2026. Aetna Medicare OTC benefits come on the Aetna Medicare Extra Benefits Card. If your Aetna Medicare Advantage plan includes an OTC allowance, the money is in the card’s OTC wallet and can be spent on approved over-the-counter products at participating CVS stores, online at CVS.com/Aetna with free shipping, or by phone at 1-844-428-8147. Aetna says your allowance is available on the first day of each benefit period and “any unused allowance will not carry over to the next benefit period.”
Quick answer: Not every Aetna plan includes the card. Check your Annual Notice of Change or Evidence of Coverage. Some Aetna special needs plans also have an Extra Supports wallet for healthy food, personal care items, utilities and transportation, for members who qualify. Aetna’s Medicaid plans, Aetna Better Health, have separate OTC benefits set by each state.

The Aetna Medicare Extra Benefits Card wallets
Aetna describes the Extra Benefits Card as a card with one or more “wallets,” each holding a different allowance (Aetna):
| Wallet | What it pays for | Where to use it |
|---|---|---|
| OTC wallet (CVS OTC wallet) | Approved over-the-counter products | CVS retail locations (not CVS stores inside other stores), CVS.com/Aetna, or 1-844-428-8147 |
| Extra Supports wallet | Approved OTC products, healthy foods, personal care products, utility bills, public transportation and rideshare | Participating retailers including CVS, online, or 1-844-428-8147 |
| Medical Expense wallet | Plan-covered services | Health care providers’ offices |
The Extra Supports wallet is a special supplemental benefit for the chronically ill (SSBCI). Aetna notes it requires eligibility verification based on chronic conditions such as hypertension, diabetes or cardiovascular disorders.

What you can buy
Aetna publishes a product catalog, or list of approved products, for plans with the OTC benefit. Typical categories include pain relief, cold and allergy medicine, vitamins, first aid, dental care, digestive health and incontinence supplies. Prescription drugs aren’t included, and groceries are covered only through an Extra Supports wallet if you qualify.
How to check your Aetna OTC balance
- Sign in to your account at CVS.com/Aetna to see your available allowance
- Call 1-844-428-8147
- Call Member Services using the number on your Aetna ID card
Because unused OTC money doesn’t carry over, plan purchases before each benefit period ends. Your Evidence of Coverage shows whether your benefit period is monthly or quarterly. For general tips, see how to check your OTC card balance.
Aetna Better Health (Medicaid) OTC benefits
Aetna’s Medicaid plans, Aetna Better Health, offer extra benefits that vary by state. Aetna Better Health of Louisiana, for example, lists a $25 quarterly over-the-counter benefit. See our guide to Aetna Better Health of Louisiana, and check your state plan’s member handbook for how to order.
Choosing an Aetna plan with OTC benefits for 2027
Aetna confirms in its materials that not all plans include the Extra Benefits Card, and benefits can change every year. Compare plans during Medicare Open Enrollment, October 15 to December 7, 2026, looking at doctors, drugs and the out-of-pocket maximum before extras.
