Fresh salad and vegetables that may be eligible with a Kaiser healthy food benefit

Updated October 6, 2026. Kaiser Permanente’s OTC and healthy food benefits for Medicare members are loaded onto one prepaid Healthy Extras card in 2026. In the Mid-Atlantic region (Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C.), Medicare Advantage members get a preloaded OTC allowance that refreshes quarterly, and members with qualifying chronic conditions may also get a monthly healthy food allowance. You manage the card at mybenefitscenter.com, in the OTC Network app, or by calling 1-833-524-7035 (TTY: 711), 7 days a week, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET.

Quick answer: To check your Kaiser OTC balance, sign in at mybenefitscenter.com, open the OTC Network app, or call 1-833-524-7035. You can use the card like a debit card at more than 70,000 participating retail stores and online (Kaiser Permanente 2026 Medicare extras).

How the Kaiser Healthy Extras card works in 2026

Kaiser’s 2026 member video says: “Starting January 1, 2026, these benefits will be combined on one pre-paid Healthy Extras card” (Kaiser Permanente OTC and healthy food video transcript). Here’s how the Mid-Atlantic plans describe the benefits:

BenefitWho gets itHow often it refreshes
OTC allowanceKaiser Permanente Medicare Advantage (HMO and HMO-POS) membersQuarterly

Kaiser Permanente also offers Medicare plans in other regions, such as California, Colorado, Georgia, Hawaii, Oregon and Washington, and extras differ by region.

Does the Kaiser OTC balance roll over?

No. Kaiser’s healthy food card FAQ describes the benefit as “use it or lose it”: any unused balance at the end of a period doesn’t roll over to the next one (Kaiser healthy food card FAQ).

How to activate your Healthy Extras card

Where to use the Kaiser OTC and food card

Use the card at participating retailers in person or online. Kaiser’s card FAQ names retailers such as Kroger, Walmart, CVS, Walgreens, Dollar General, Family Dollar and Food Lion, and the 2026 member video says eligible members can order fresh food on Walmart.com and OTC items online through CVS Health. Store participation changes, so use the store locator in the OTC Network app before you shop. For shopping at Walmart specifically, see our Walmart OTC card guide.

What can you buy?

OTC health items

Approved over-the-counter products typically include pain relievers, cold and allergy medicine, digestive aids, first aid supplies, oral care and vitamins. The full list is in Kaiser’s 2026 OTC item catalog.

Healthy food items (qualifying members)

Kaiser’s healthy food card FAQ lists about 20 eligible categories, including fresh and frozen produce, lean meats, seafood, whole grains, low-fat or nonfat dairy, nuts, oils, eggs, high-fiber low-sugar cereals, beans and legumes, herbs and spices, and unsweetened bottled water. The card declines items that aren’t eligible.
