AmeriHealth Caritas Ohio: Medicaid Plan Benefits, Phone and Enrollment

Updated October 5, 2026

Reviewed October 5, 2026. AmeriHealth Caritas Ohio is one of the seven Medicaid managed care plans in Ohio’s Next Generation managed care program, alongside Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Buckeye Community Health Plan, CareSource, Humana Healthy Horizons, Molina and UnitedHealthcare Community Plan. It covers Ohio Medicaid benefits for members who choose it or are assigned to it. Member Services is 1-833-764-7700 (TTY 1-833-889-6446).

Quick answer: To choose or change to AmeriHealth Caritas Ohio, call the Ohio Medicaid Consumer Hotline at 1-800-324-8680 (TTY 711). If you have both Medicare and Medicaid, AmeriHealth Caritas Ohio isn’t one of the Next Generation MyCare plans, so your plan options are different.

What AmeriHealth Caritas Ohio covers

Every Ohio Medicaid managed care plan covers the benefits Ohio Medicaid requires, including:

Prescriptions for Ohio Medicaid managed care members are handled through Ohio’s single pharmacy benefit manager, so the drug list is the same no matter which plan you choose. AmeriHealth Caritas Ohio’s member site also highlights its CARE Card rewards program, which lets members earn rewards for healthy activities, and a mobile app. Extra benefits can change each year, so check the current member handbook.

Who can join AmeriHealth Caritas Ohio

You need to be approved for Ohio Medicaid first. You can apply through the Ohio Benefits website, by phone or at your county Job and Family Services office. See how to sign in to your state Medicaid portal. After you’re approved, Ohio sends a letter asking you to choose a managed care plan. If you don’t choose, the state assigns one.

Most Ohioans with Medicaid only are in a managed care plan. People who have both Medicare and Medicaid are generally enrolled in Next Generation MyCare instead, where AmeriHealth Caritas Ohio isn’t an option. If that’s you, also see dual eligibility in Medicare and Medicaid and Medicare Savings Programs.

How AmeriHealth Caritas Ohio compares

Because Ohio sets Medicaid benefits and uses one pharmacy benefit manager for all plans, the biggest differences between plans are the provider network, extra benefits and member services. Before you pick, compare which plan includes your primary care doctor, specialists and nearest hospital. AmeriHealth Caritas also runs Medicaid plans in other states, including AmeriHealth Caritas Pennsylvania. For another Ohio option, read how Molina Medicaid plans work.

Keeping your Ohio Medicaid

Your plan doesn’t decide eligibility; Ohio Medicaid does. Keep your address current, return renewal forms and watch for letters. Federal changes passed in 2025 add work requirements and six-month renewals for many expansion adults starting around January 1, 2027. Read what the 2025 Medicaid changes mean for you.
