Louisiana Medicaid Renewal: How to Renew Online, by Phone or by Mail

Updated October 5, 2026

Reviewed October 5, 2026. Louisiana Medicaid must be renewed every year. The fastest way is online through the Louisiana Medicaid Self-Service Portal at MyMedicaid.La.gov, where you sign in, link your case, choose “Renew My Benefits” and sign electronically with your PIN. You can also renew by phone at 1-888-342-6207 (Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.), by mail, fax or email, or in person at a regional Medicaid office.

Quick answer: Respond to every renewal letter by its deadline. The Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) warns that if you don’t respond to requests for information, you “may lose your coverage, even if you are eligible.” Starting in 2027, many adults in Louisiana’s Medicaid expansion group will have to renew every six months instead of once a year.

What you’ll need

LDH says most people won’t need to provide documents about savings or other resources.

Renewal changes coming in 2027

Under federal law passed in 2025, adults in the Medicaid expansion group will be renewed every six months for renewals scheduled on or after January 1, 2027, and many will also need to show 80 hours a month of work or other qualifying activity unless exempt. Read how Medicaid renewal works and what the 2025 Medicaid changes mean.

Healthy Blue members: renewing vs. choosing a plan

Renewing your Medicaid eligibility is separate from choosing a health plan. LDH says Healthy Blue’s contract ends December 31, 2026, and Healthy Blue members can choose a new plan from October 15 to November 16, 2026, through Healthy Louisiana at 1-855-229-6848 or myplan.healthy.la.gov. See our guide to Aetna Better Health of Louisiana, which lists the plans continuing in 2027.

If your Louisiana Medicaid ends

Nursing home residents also renew every year. See Louisiana Medicaid long-term care support.
