Aetna Medicare Vision 2027: Coverage, Allowances and Providers

Updated November 4, 2026

Reviewed November 4, 2026. Every 2027 Aetna Medicare Advantage plan includes routine vision coverage. Aetna says “All plans cover a yearly eye exam,” and its October 2026 announcement says all its 2027 plans include eyewear benefits with $0 routine eye exams in network. Many plans also give you a yearly allowance toward prescription glasses or contacts, and the amount and the vision network depend on the plan.

Quick answer: To find Aetna Medicare vision providers, search Aetna’s Medicare provider directory and choose your 2027 plan, then confirm with the office. Network providers bill the plan directly. In the two 2027 Aetna dual-eligible plans whose documents we could read, the eyewear allowance was $200 (Illinois) and $250 (Michigan) a year. Check your own plan’s 2027 Summary of Benefits before you enroll during Open Enrollment, October 15 to December 7, 2026.

Aetna Medicare vision coverage in 2027

Routine vision is a supplemental benefit that Aetna adds on top of Original Medicare. Aetna’s dental, eyewear and hearing page (updated October 1, 2026) and its 2027 plan announcement describe the basics:

Which vision network does Aetna Medicare use?

It isn’t one network for every plan. In the 2027 plan documents we read, Aetna’s Illinois dual plan uses March Vision and its Michigan dual plan uses VSP. Aetna’s general pages don’t name a single vision vendor, so check the vision section of your plan’s Summary of Benefits or Evidence of Coverage to see which network applies to you.

Both of these are dual-eligible special needs plans for people with Medicare and Medicaid. Aetna’s standard HMO and PPO plans also include a yearly eye exam, and many include an eyewear allowance, but the amount varies. Use Aetna’s plan documents page (choose the 2027 plan year) to read the vision row for any plan you’re considering.

2026 vs 2027: did Aetna vision benefits change?

Not in these two plans. H9771-001 in Illinois had the same $200 allowance with March Vision in 2026, and its 2027 Annual Notice of Change lists no vision changes. H9314-001 in Michigan also had $250 with VSP in 2026. What did change is the OTC allowance on the Aetna Extra Benefits Card: $225 to $234 a month in Illinois and $220 to $229 a month in Michigan. How to find Aetna Medicare vision providers

  1. Go to Aetna’s Medicare find a provider page. Aetna says you can use its directory to search “for doctors, hospitals, and vision and dental providers.”
  2. Choose the 2027 plan year and your plan, enter your ZIP code and search for eye care.
  3. Check your plan’s vendor. If your plan uses a vendor such as March Vision or VSP, you must use that vendor’s network providers.
  4. Call the office and confirm it accepts your Aetna Medicare plan for routine vision, not just medical eye care.

In the two dual plans above, out-of-network routine vision isn’t covered except for emergency or urgent care. Retail optical chains may be in network for some plans; see does America’s Best take Medicare for one example.

Aetna Medicare vision coverage for seniors: what to know

What Original Medicare covers for vision

Aetna Medicare Advantage plans must cover at least what Original Medicare covers. Part B doesn’t cover routine eye exams for glasses or contacts, but it does cover a yearly diabetic eye exam, glaucoma tests for people at high risk, and one pair of glasses or contacts after cataract surgery with an implanted lens. (Medicare.gov; cataract surgery) A Medicare Supplement policy, including Aetna’s Accendo Medigap plans, doesn’t add routine vision. Read more in does Medicare cover eye exams.

Does Aetna sell separate vision insurance for seniors?

Aetna has sold individual vision plans (Aetna Vision Preferred, administered by EyeMed), but the brochure we found is from 2023 and isn’t aimed at Medicare members, so we can’t confirm current prices or availability. If you’re on Medicare, the vision benefit already included in an Aetna Medicare Advantage plan is usually the first thing to compare.

Other Aetna Medicare benefits to compare

Vision is one of several Aetna extras that vary by plan. See Aetna Medicare dental 2027, Aetna OTC and the Extra Benefits Card, the Aetna food card list and Aetna Medicare Advantage plans. To compare carriers, read Humana vision plans and Wellcare vision.
