Cigna Medicare Advantage Plans 2027: Now HealthSpring
Updated October 20, 2026. Cigna no longer sells Medicare Advantage plans under its own name. The Cigna Group sold its Medicare Advantage, Medicare Part D, supplemental benefits and CareAllies businesses to Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC), and the sale closed on March 19, 2025. Those plans are now sold as HealthSpring, and for 2027 HealthSpring offers Medicare Advantage plans in 450 counties in 24 states.
Quick answer: If you had a “Cigna Medicare Advantage” plan, it’s now a HealthSpring plan run by HCSC. 2027 HealthSpring plans are mostly HMOs, plus PPOs and special needs plans (D-SNPs and C-SNPs). Read your 2027 Annual Notice of Change: in the three plans we checked, 2027 extras such as dental and OTC allowances went down and out-of-pocket maximums went up. You can switch plans during Open Enrollment, October 15 to December 7, 2026.
What happened to Cigna Medicare Advantage?
Cigna’s March 19, 2025 announcement said it had completed the sale of its “Medicare Advantage, Cigna Supplemental Benefits, Medicare Part D, and CareAllies businesses” to HCSC, and that Cigna would keep providing pharmacy benefit services to those Medicare businesses through Evernorth for a period after closing (Cigna, SEC filing). HCSC said the deal brought it to “26.5 million people, including 4.3 million Medicare members” (HCSC). HCSC then moved the acquired Medicare plans to the HealthSpring brand.
| Product | Who runs it now | Brand |
|---|---|---|
| Medicare Advantage (HMO, PPO, SNP) | HCSC | HealthSpring |
| Part D drug plans | HCSC | HealthSpring (for example, HealthSpring Assurance Rx) |
| Medicare Supplement (Medigap) | HCSC | HealthSpring (rebranding completed in 2026) |
| Employer and commercial plans | The Cigna Group | Cigna Healthcare |
