How to Check Your OTC Card Balance (Phone, Online and App)

Updated October 5, 2026

Reviewed October 5, 2026. To check your OTC card balance, use your health plan’s member website or app, call the phone number on the back of your OTC or benefits card, or look at the balance printed on your last store receipt. There’s no single national OTC balance line: each Medicare Advantage or Medicaid plan, and the card company it works with, has its own. Humana, for example, tells members to call the number on the back of the Humana Spending Account Card, while UnitedHealthcare members check the UCard Hub on their member site or app.

Quick answer: Flip your card over first. The back of the card almost always lists the balance phone number and website. If your card shows an “OTC Network” logo, you can also see your balance at checkout on Amazon after adding the card to your Amazon Wallet.

How to check your balance with major plans

Humana

Humana says to “check the balance of your OTC Allowance benefit by calling the number on the back of your Humana Spending Account Card.” For general questions, Humana lists 800-457-4708 (TTY 711), Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., for individual Medicare members (Humana).

UnitedHealthcare

UnitedHealthcare members with a UCard can “check benefit and rewards balances” in the UnitedHealthcare app or by signing in to the UCard Hub on the member website (UnitedHealthcare). See our guides to the UnitedHealthcare OTC catalog and where to use the UnitedHealthcare OTC card.

Cards with the OTC Network logo

Many plans issue cards that run on the OTC Network. Amazon says that if your card has the OTC Network logo, you can add it to your Amazon Wallet, choose an eligible item and, at checkout, select “Check coverage and balances” to see your overall balance and the balance for each benefit type (Amazon).

Other plans

Aetna, Wellcare, Molina, Healthfirst, Kaiser Permanente and other plans each use their own card or catalog vendor. The balance phone number and website are on your card and in your plan’s Evidence of Coverage or member handbook. Medicaid members can also find plan contact information through their state; see how to sign in to your state Medicaid portal.

Why your balance may be lower than expected

UnitedHealthcare notes that “OTC, food, utility and wellness support benefits have expiration timeframes,” and points members to their Evidence of Coverage for details. That’s good advice for any plan.

Tips to use your full OTC balance

Beware of balance-check scams

Only use the phone number and website printed on your card or in your plan documents. Look-alike sites and callers sometimes ask for your Medicare number or card number to “check” or “activate” benefits. Your plan won’t ask you to pay to see your balance. Our OTC card guide explains how to spot misleading “flex card” offers.

Don’t have an OTC benefit yet?

Original Medicare doesn’t include an OTC allowance. It comes with certain Medicare Advantage and Medicaid plans. If it matters to you, compare 2027 plans during Open Enrollment, October 15 to December 7, 2026. Read how to find Medicare Advantage plans with OTC benefits.
