Humana Spending Account Card 2027: Where to Use It and What You Can Buy

Updated October 13, 2026

Reviewed October 13, 2026. You can use your Humana Spending Account Card at participating stores such as Walmart, Kroger, Publix, CVS, Walgreens and Dollar General, at participating billers, and online where your plan allows it. What you can buy depends on the allowance your Humana Medicare Advantage plan loads onto the card, and that can change for the 2027 plan year, so check your plan’s 2027 Summary of Benefits during Open Enrollment (October 15 to December 7, 2026).

Quick answer: The Humana Spending Account Card is a prepaid card for plan allowances, mainly the Healthy Options Allowance. It works only at participating retailers and billers, not at ATMs, and it can’t be used for cash. Everyone with the allowance can buy eligible over-the-counter (OTC) items; groceries, utilities and rent are only for members who meet the plan’s chronic-condition rules. Check stores and your balance in the MyHumana app or at MyHumana.com, or call the number on the back of your card.

What is the Humana Spending Account Card?

Humana describes the Spending Account Card as the prepaid card where your Healthy Options Allowance is stored. Humana says the Healthy Options Allowance is offered on most of its Chronic Condition (C-SNP) and Dual Eligible (D-SNP) Special Needs Plans and on some other Medicare Advantage plans, and that monthly amounts begin at $25 and vary by plan and location.

Some Humana plans also put their quarterly OTC allowance on a prepaid spending card. For example, the 2026 Summary of Benefits for Humana Gold Plus H1036-065 (HMO) in Broward County, Florida, lists a $100 quarterly OTC allowance on a prepaid spending card, with mail order as another option. Other plans deliver OTC items by mail order only.

The card holds your plan’s allowance only. It isn’t a Medicare card or your Humana member ID card, and it doesn’t pay doctor or hospital bills. For Humana’s catalog and mail-order OTC benefit, see our Humana OTC card and catalog guide.

Where can I use my Humana Spending Account Card?

The card works only at participating retailers and billers. Humana’s Healthy Options categories flyer names these popular stores, among others:

Store lists differ by area and change over time (the flyer is undated, and one chain it names has closed its stores), so check before you shop:

  1. Sign in to the MyHumana app or MyHumana.com.
  2. Open your spending account and use the store finder.
  3. Search by ZIP code to see participating stores near you.
  4. At checkout, pay with the card first. The register approves only eligible items, and you pay for anything else another way.

Humana’s card FAQ says shipping costs for OTC and Healthy Options items ordered online are covered by Humana, though same-day delivery fees may apply. For store-specific tips, see using OTC benefits at Walmart and whether Target accepts OTC cards.

What can I buy with my Humana Spending Account Card?

It depends on your plan and whether you qualify for the chronic-condition categories. Humana’s Healthy Options materials list these categories:

To pay a bill, use the biller’s website if it accepts the card. If a provider doesn’t accept Visa, Humana’s flyer says you can pay through the Healthy Benefits+ website or by calling Healthy Benefits+ Customer Service at 1-855-396-0691 (TTY 711).

Can I use my Humana Spending Account Card on groceries?

Only if your plan includes groceries and you qualify. Humana lists qualifying chronic conditions such as diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular disorders, chronic heart failure, chronic lung disorders and chronic and disabling mental health conditions, and some plans require two or more conditions. Under federal rules for Special Supplemental Benefits for the Chronically Ill, members must also be at high risk of hospitalization and need intensive care coordination. For Humana’s separate food benefit, read how the Humana Healthy Foods Card works.

Does the money roll over?

What changes in 2027?

Humana announced on October 1, 2026, that its 2027 Medicare Advantage plans are available in about 2,600 counties across 45 states and Washington, D.C., with $0 or low-premium options, and that its C-SNPs expand into Pennsylvania, Utah and Wisconsin. The announcement doesn’t describe changes to the spending card itself. Separately, CMS’s Contract Year 2027 final rule requires plan debit cards to be electronically linked to covered items and services and limited to the specific plan year.

If you rely on the allowance, compare your 2026 Summary of Benefits with your 2027 Annual Notice of Change before December 7, 2026. Our guide to Medicare Advantage plans with OTC benefits shows what to compare, and Humana Medicare Advantage plans for 2027 covers the plan lineup.
