Wellcare Dental 2027: What Plans Cover and How to Find a Dentist

Updated October 18, 2026

Reviewed October 18, 2026. Wellcare dental coverage comes with many Wellcare Medicare Advantage plans, but what it covers depends on the plan. Most plans include $0 in-network preventive care (exams, cleanings and X-rays). Some 2027 plans add comprehensive care such as fillings, root canals, extractions and dentures, up to a yearly dollar limit, while others cover preventive care only.

Quick answer: Original Medicare doesn’t cover routine dental care, so dental coverage comes from your Wellcare Medicare Advantage plan. For 2027, look for the “Dental” rows in the plan’s Summary of Benefits: they show what’s covered, your copay or coinsurance, and the yearly maximum. Find a Wellcare dental provider with Wellcare’s Find a Provider tool or by calling the number on your member ID card. You can change plans during Medicare Open Enrollment, October 15 to December 7, 2026, for coverage starting January 1, 2027.

What Wellcare dental covers

Wellcare’s dental benefit page (last updated October 1, 2026) says that, depending on your plan, dental benefits may include oral exams, cleanings, fluoride treatments, X-rays and emergency services, and may also include comprehensive services such as deep cleanings and oral surgery. It sends members to their Summary of Benefits for the details of their own plan. (Wellcare: Dental benefit)

Wellcare’s plans generally fall into three groups:

Coverage levelWhat it usually includesWhere the limit is shown
Preventive onlyExams, cleanings, X-rays, fluoride, often $0 in networkSummary of Benefits, “Routine Diagnostic and Preventive Services”
Preventive plus comprehensiveAdds restorative care (fillings), endodontics (root canals), periodontics, oral surgery, dentures and other prosthodonticsA yearly maximum, such as “up to $1,000” or “up to $3,000” per plan year
Medicare-covered dentalDental care tied to a covered medical treatment (for example before certain heart or cancer treatment)A separate copay, such as $50 per Medicare-covered service

What’s new for 2027

In its October 1, 2026 announcement, Wellcare said it is adding “new Brass and Amber dental options to help bridge coverage gaps between existing benefit packages.” Wellcare hasn’t published a public description of those two tiers, so check the dental section of each plan you compare. The same announcement says the Wellcare Spendables card can be used for “qualified dental, vision and hearing expenses” on plans that include it. (Centene, October 2026)

Wellcare dental plans: 2026 vs 2027 examples

These examples come from Wellcare’s 2027 Summaries of Benefits and Annual Notices of Change. They show how much plans differ, even inside one company. Your plan may be different.

Plan (2027)Dental in 2027Compared with 2026
Wellcare Home State Health Dual Access Open (PPO D-SNP) H7518-003, Missouri$0 in-network preventive and comprehensive care; up to a $3,000 allowance per year for comprehensive dental (in and out of network); 50% coinsurance out of networkAllowance was $5,000 in 2026. Spendables card drops from $130 to $43 a month in 2027 and can still be used for eligible dental costs
Wellcare Nebraska Total Care Dual Liberty Sync (HMO-POS D-SNP) H1215-001, Nebraska$0 in-network preventive and comprehensive care; up to $1,000 per plan year for comprehensive dental; 25% out of networkSame $1,000 maximum. Spendables changes from $183 a month (OTC, dental, vision, hearing) to $84 a month for OTC items and, if eligible, SSBCI benefits
Wellcare Simple (HMO-POS) H1215-005, Nebraska$0 in-network cleanings, exams, X-rays and fluoride; 25% out of network; adjunctive services only; no annual maximum listed; $50 copay for Medicare-covered dental$0 premium. No Spendables card listed in the 2027 Summary of Benefits
Sources: Wellcare 2027 Summaries of Benefits (H7518-003, H1215-001, H1215-005) and the 2027 Annual Notice of Change for H7518-003. D-SNPs are only for people with both Medicare and Medicaid.

The Missouri D-SNP shows why the Annual Notice of Change matters. Its dental allowance is still large in 2027, but it is $2,000 lower than in 2026, and the Spendables card that helped cover dental costs is much smaller. (Wellcare 2027 ANOC, H7518-003)

Frequency limits and prior authorization

Wellcare’s 2027 Dental Benefit Details for the Missouri plan list limits like these:

The same document says prior authorization is required for certain procedures and is “not a guarantee of payment,” and it excludes cosmetic dentistry. (Wellcare 2027 Dental Benefit Details) Limits differ by plan, so read your own plan’s Evidence of Coverage before major work like crowns, implants or dentures.

Wellcare dental providers: how to find a dentist

Wellcare tells members to make sure their dentist is in network, because out-of-network care may cost more or may not be covered. To find a Wellcare dental provider:

  1. Open Wellcare’s Find a Provider tool and choose your state and 2027 plan.
  2. Search for dentists by ZIP code.
  3. Call the office and confirm it takes your specific Wellcare plan for 2027, not just “Wellcare.”
  4. If you can’t find one, call Member Services at the number on the back of your member ID card.

Wellcare’s dental vendor depends on the state. Wellcare’s dental page says to tell the dental office the name of your dental vendor, which is printed on the back of your member ID card. Centene Dental, Wellcare’s in-house dental administrator, says it handles Wellcare dental benefits in Delaware, Illinois, Maine, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina and Ohio. (Centene Dental)

Can you use the Wellcare Spendables card for dental?

On some plans, yes. The 2027 Summary of Benefits for the Missouri H7518-003 plan says members may use the card “to help reduce your out-of-pocket expenses for eligible dental, vision, and hearing services.” Other plans, such as Nebraska H1215-001 in 2027, list the card for OTC items and eligible SSBCI benefits only. See our Wellcare Spendables and OTC guide for how the card works.

Wellcare dental plans for seniors: how to compare

If Wellcare isn’t a fit, compare UnitedHealthcare dental and Humana dental plans for seniors. For why Medicare itself covers so little, see why dental coverage with Medicare is limited.

Does Original Medicare cover dental?

In most cases, no. Medicare.gov says Medicare doesn’t cover dental services like routine cleanings, fillings, tooth extractions, or items like dentures, and you pay all costs for non-covered services. It covers some dental care directly related to certain covered medical treatments. (Medicare.gov: Dental services) That’s why most people get dental coverage through a Medicare Advantage plan or a separate dental policy.
