Humana Dental Plans for Seniors 2027: Coverage, Implants and Dentists

Humana dental plans for seniors come in two forms: dental benefits built into Humana Medicare Advantage plans, and stand-alone dental insurance you buy separately on Humana.com. In the 2027 Medicare Advantage plans we checked, dental coverage ranges from $0 exams, cleanings and X-rays with a $1,000 yearly maximum to a $4,000 yearly allowance for preventive and major care such as crowns, root canals and dentures. Implants are excluded from the allowance in the plans that address them.

Does Original Medicare cover dental?
Mostly no. Medicare.gov says Medicare doesn’t cover dental services like routine cleanings, fillings or tooth extractions, or items like dentures and implants. It covers dental care only in limited cases tied to other treatment, such as an oral exam before a heart valve replacement or organ transplant, or dental care related to head and neck cancer treatment or dialysis. (Medicare.gov: Dental services) Medigap policies don’t add dental either. That’s why seniors look to a Medicare Advantage plan with dental benefits or a separate dental policy.
Humana Medicare Advantage dental plans for 2027
Humana’s October 1, 2026 announcement says “dental, vision and hearing benefits [are] available across plan offerings” for 2027, in about 2,600 counties across 45 states and Washington, D.C. (Humana, October 1, 2026) The design of the dental benefit, though, changes a lot from plan to plan. Humana uses two main styles:
- Allowance plans: the plan pays up to a set dollar amount each year toward preventive and comprehensive dental care you choose, and you may pay coinsurance for major services.
- Copay schedule plans: specific services have set copays (often $0 for preventive care) with frequency limits and a yearly maximum.

All four plans have a $0 monthly plan premium in 2027 (you still pay your Part B premium, and the Alabama Giveback plan reduces it by up to $102 a month). Medicare-covered dental services, the limited ones Original Medicare pays for, have their own copay in each plan: $5 in H1036-335, $25 in H1036-290, $30 in H1036-305 and $35 in network in H5216-236.
2026 vs 2027: Humana Gold Plus H1036-335
This North Carolina plan shows how much a dental benefit can change in one year. Its yearly dental allowance rises from $2,500 in 2026 to $4,000 in 2027, but the 2027 Summary of Benefits adds that 50% of the cost applies to most major and comprehensive services. Implants are excluded from the allowance in both years. (2026 Summary of Benefits) If you’re already a Humana member, your 2027 Annual Notice of Change lists any change to your dental benefit.
What does my Humana dental plan cover?
Across the 2027 plans above, Humana Medicare Advantage dental typically covers:
- Preventive care: oral exams, cleanings and X-rays, usually with frequency limits such as two cleanings a year.
- Basic care: fillings and simple extractions.
- Major care (in allowance plans): crowns, root canals, bridges, periodontal treatment and dentures, often with coinsurance.
Common limits to watch: unused allowance expires at the end of the calendar year; the allowance “cannot be used on fluoride, cosmetic services and implants” in H1036-335 and H5216-236; and out-of-network dentists may bill you more than the plan pays.
Does Humana dental cover implants?
Not in the 2027 Medicare Advantage plans we checked: H1036-335 and H5216-236 exclude implants from the dental allowance, and the two Florida copay-schedule plans don’t list implants as covered. Some of Humana’s stand-alone plans do include implant benefits (see below). If implants matter to you, check the exclusions list in each plan’s Evidence of Coverage before you enroll.
Humana stand-alone dental insurance
If you have Original Medicare, or a Medicare Advantage plan with limited dental, you can buy individual dental coverage from Humana. Humana’s own Medicare explainer notes that “some Medicare Advantage plans can be paired with a dental insurance plan.” (Humana) Options listed on Humana.com include:

Humana also sells Dental Savings Plus, a discount plan that isn’t insurance. Stand-alone premiums depend on your state and age, so compare the yearly premium with the benefit you expect to use.

- Go to Humana’s find a dentist page or Humana.com/FindCare.
- Choose your coverage type and enter your ZIP code.
- Select the network printed on your member ID card. Most Medicare Advantage plans use the Humana Dental Medicare network.
- Call the dental office to confirm it takes your specific 2027 plan before your appointment.
How to choose a Humana dental plan for 2027
- Estimate your dental needs. Cleanings only? A $0-copay preventive plan may be enough. Crowns or dentures coming up? Look for a larger allowance and check the coinsurance.
- Read the 2027 Summary of Benefits for the dental maximum, what it covers and what it excludes.
- Check your dentist in the plan’s network.

Humana says dental benefits are available across its 2027 plan offerings, but the amount varies. In the plans we checked, yearly maximums range from $1,000 to a $4,000 allowance.
